I piddle around with lo-fi ambient and downtempo stuff. I've got some tracks mostly composed, but I have yet to start recording stuff since I'm trying to focus on playing things more by hand and then sampling it back instead of sequencing absolutely everything, and my instrumental skill sucks. I've been dividing my time between guitar and keyboard and so have no real proficiencies so far. On top of that, I plan on learning some kind of woodwind instrument to sample instead of just using a monosynth line.

I like ragtime, early jazz, and some of the early blues myself. I don't have much intention of playing those genres though, although I learned a few common ragtime chords at one point.

Just bought an electric guitar lads, I dont have an amp yet so I will have to make due with the laptop. Problem is theres too much humming and buzzing that give me headache in a few minutes. How do I fix this lads? Some say to tape copper wire to some metal pole, but that's for pc, not laptop.

 No.525

>>520
I'm not really sure. I haven't had much in the way of noise problems since I upgraded my guitar. How do you have it hooked up to to your computer?

 No.529

>>525
I fixed it using software to reduce the noise, though it kinda fucks with the tone. Another problem i ran into was latency, and using dedicated audio software fixed this as well, by reducing the quality of the sound input. I didn't know that they have these tuner packages, it's very convenient compared to youtube videos. Ableton is good. There's another problem i still cant fix that is fret buzz. I don't like high action and try to lower it as much as possible, but it keeps fucking buzzing if I pick it a little more than lightly. Should I sand some frets down since some of them are uneven or is there something else I can do?

What are you using for a connection? Do you have a dedicated audio interface?
>I didn't know that they have these tuner packages, it's very convenient compared to youtube videos.
Yeah, I had a tuner VST once that was really nice. Nowadays I just use PitchPerfect Musical Instrument Tuner, which works pretty well (aside from the company badgering you to install other programs of theirs).
>Should I sand some frets down since some of them are uneven or is there something else I can do?
If you think you know what you're doing, maybe. I personally shy away from that kind of stuff because I've never been good with that sort of thing.

 No.533

>>531
>What are you using for a connection? Do you have a dedicated audio interface?
Just plugging directly into my laptop. I wouldn't waste money on dedicated audio interface though, I'd rather save up for a good amp, especially a mini one.
>sanding frets
https://watch.nettohikari.com/watch?v=pbr0VR2CdQM&local=1&nojs=0&player_style=youtube
I'm trying out this technique but last time i couldn't find a straight piece of wood and used some thick paper instead. Didn't work exactly like how i wanted it to be, it kind of bend over. I would also need to get some smoother sand paper because the frets feel like shit now. My neck also has this tiny curve and it doesn't even have a truss rod, don't know how I'm going to fix this one.

I personally have gotten way more use out of my audio interface than I do my practice amp. What kind of amp are you looking at?

Nice. At some point I might like to learn to read music properly so I can learn to take apart songs from the early 20th century and see how they were constructed. It's not much of a priority for me right now though.
