These SNL styled comedies that got popular from the 80s onward really jewd up the whole comedy genre into their style. Watch comedies from the 70s and before and you will notice a difference.

70s comedies tend to be pretentious and awkward. It's like they were all made by the kind of white guy that every black comedian does an impression of. 80s comedies are more in line with pre 70s comedies. They're just dirtier and more lowbrow.
