>>352437The only other (male) person I know irl who watches Kdramas said it was pretty bad, and he usually loves his horror/scifi shit no matter how sloppy. It's the same screenwriter as "A Time Between Dog and Wolf" though, which was pretty good.

>>352434how were the ring movies? i havent seen the first ringu since around the year it came out, i was young so i didn't really appreciate it. and memories of murder is great, theres multiple colour grades of the film, with the newer being much darker, do you recall which one you saw?
>>352437not seen it, it has a terrible poster, judging by that the fight scenes with that cgi face arm thing will probably look goofy. its probably alright to watch like it was a flick.

>>352449>how were the ring movies?First one has the best atmosphere and is probably the best overall, but the sequels can be fun so I'll go through the ones I know in order. Spiral, based on the second book in the series, leans a lot more into the science-fantasy side of the source material instead of the horror and doesn't leave any room for more story after it, so it gets retconned by Ring 2, which is pretty much more of the first movie. Ring 0 gets the furthest away from the first movie's formula (pushes away from the tech side and focuses on the witchy stuff) which I think works to keep it feeling fresh, but that means its style is unique in a way that it won't scratch the same itch as the rest of the series. Sadako 3D is where the series went full japslop, which is fun but at that point you might as well be watching a parody of The Ring instead of the series itself. That's as far as I've seen. From what I've heard Sadako 3D 2 (the titles get terrible from here on out) had the same director but he felt like he had to make it up to fans so he changed all the stuff people didn't like about the last movie. Sadako (not to be confused with Sadako 3D) I believe is something of a reboot and more of a horror comedy, as is its sequel Sadako DX and the crossover Sadako vs. Kayako. The only other Japanese movie in the franchise I know of is the 1995 TV version usually referred to by its VHS/Laserdisc title Ring Complete. Haven't seen it but I've heard it sticks close to the book while not being that good.
<Should I watch them?Ring/Spiral are definitely worth checking out, especially if you do a double feature the way they came out in the theater. With the first being more horror and improvising over the book and the second being more mystery while staying a faithful adaptation, they contrast each other well while keeping a coherent overarching story between the two. After that I'd only keep going if you really like Sadako and want to see her get up to more antics.
One final note: if you're looking for scary horror, you're looking in the wrong place. Skip The Ring and go straight to Ju-On if you want something more unsettling.

I watched all of Karma last night, it was decent, it didn't blow me away, the acting was very good, I can see why some people don't like it, it's not full of redeemable characters. Kim sung kyun was effay as fuck.
Also watched Spiritwalker last night, great concept but not exactly coherent, entertaining to watch as a thriller flick, good acting all around.

>>353197Just watched episode 1 of Karma, feels like a run of the mill thriller so far. I recently watched Reply 1994 where Kim Sung-kyun plays the goofy character as usual, so it's kinda weird to see him play a Chinese gangster here kek

>>354342The GTO adaptions I watched were both from the late 90s and 2000s, with one being maybe 2010s. Unsure about the actors.
I will say young GTO live action is shit. The actors are tiny and look nothing like the demon-bomb combo and there is a literal cringe scene where they get sorta half-cucked by two geo-maxxxing amerimutts, one a white guy and the other a nigger. I wish I was making such a gay scene up but its real.

>>354724>im gonna get ring and spiral, i had no idea they were a double featureA lot of movies from the J-horror boom were double features, but it wasn't often that the directors had any say over what they got paired with. Ring/Spiral were special because the directors knew the movies were connected and would be shown together, although they never consulted with each other so the two movies were still made in isolation. If you want to keep theater-accurate for the sequels, Ring 2 was paired with a movie called Shikoku which had Chiaki Kuriyama from Battle Royale and Kill Bill, and Ring 0 was paired with a movie called Isola. I don't remember either being as good as their Ring counterparts, but they're easy movies to find because both were included in an old DVD set called the Kadokawa Horror Collection and much more recently in Arrow's J-Horror Rising set. Tangentially, the other movie that overlaps between those two box sets, Inugami, is one of my favorite J-horror movies and I frequently recommend it on hackedchan.
