Disagree on Donkey Kong, the color palette is because it takes place in Hollow Earth so it's supposed to look trippy.

Some of it is inflation, though. People don't have an understanding of how much value the dollar has lost.

For comparison, the Wii launched for $250 in 2006, which is roughly $400 in today's dollars. When you factor in that this is a hybrid console, it's not too bad of a deal.

My biggest concern is the dock's cooling fan. Will it be easily replaceable if it fails?

for switch emulation the vram doesn't really matter as long as you have some amount of it, the worst desktop GPU I've seen people use on it is the Nvidia GT 710
for switch emulation what matters most is meeting the 8 GB of ram threshold and having a CPU that isn't complete garbage

I recently got the extra modchips added to make mine 128MB of ram and got an LCD screen installed in front of it. No foolin' you really don't need other game consoles, the OG basically has a lifetime of shit to play on it and it's probably the easiest to customize console ever made. I just beat Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy on it and it was 10/10 breddy fun.
