Is this the theory that Cranky Kong is the original Donkey Kong? That wouldn't make sense here, because Cranky Kong is in Bananza, and Pauline is a kid. When DK made his stand in the arcade game, Pauline was a grown-up.

Donkey Kong was the villain opposite Mario in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. In the DS version, he kidnapped Pauline. I agree it would be cool to have them face off again in an adventure platformer.

Miyamoto hates when things are added to the mario universe without his approval. The last straw for him was Super Paper Mario, which has some bizarre characters and designs. While he is generally more lax with Donkey Kong, it's likely he hates the kremlings.
