How do you think Sony will go about handhelds going forward? It seems they always did something different, with the PocketStation it was a gimmick to enhance the PS1, then for PSP and PS Vita they made a portable PS2 and PS3, though by the end of the Vita's life they rebranded it as a PS4 companion as it failed as a dedicated device, and for the PS Portal they either gave up on beating Nintendo's handheld market, while also doing the Switch's hybrid model on stronger hardware, and I guess this was the way to do it.

Will Sony throw their hat in the ring again with a new PSP/PS Vita or will they keep the PS Portal model on PS6? Or perhaps ditch the enrire concept of handhelds again? I recall that before the PS Portal they tested the waters with the Backbone One PS Edition.

RAM and manufacturing prices aren't just going to blot them out, it's going to give them an excuse to leave (even after the prices correct). The Portal was already a shambling corpse that wasn't well-received on release, and that was after the Vita failed to make headway vs the emergent smartphone market, and now they've been playing the quarterly investment reports for so long that they have no long term plan, and are being completely undercut by the chinkheld market, which can now easily emulate PSP + Vita + basically every other generation behind them (and a chunk of releasing Switch + PC gameS) as it's making a generational leap basically every year at this point. The completely missed the train, and it's fucked off without them.
They've managed to hold out against Microsoft shooting itself in the foot even harder, so it's a no-brainer that they're going to consolidate the high-end console market for normalfags / minorities too inept to do PC (and even then, they're bitching about the PS6's manufacturing already).
If you want a QRD, Retroid Pocket 6 is the price-performance buy (and has PS layout), AYN Odin 3 is the higher end buy (KONKR Pocket Fit in the middle). This time next year, it'll be different.

It's over G. Console War….. has changed.

they've given up
and I say this as somebody who owns a PS3 and PSP
there is a very slim chance they will release a $1000+ Playstation equivalent of steam deck for PS5 or PS6, but it won't have new games developed for it like PSP or Vita did

PSP wasn't as powerful as PS2, and PS Vita wasn't as powerful as PS3. They're always a generation behind on these handhelds.

Hopefully they bow out entirely with their overpriced crap. It was a mistake for them to ever get involved in handhelds to begin with.

Didn't the PS5 recently get a pointless handheld low-power mode thing? What would the point of that be if they're at least not planning on aping Microshart's gameplan of putting a sticker on some other dude's hardware (ROG Ally X).
