Only ghetto people are still playing consoles

 No.15975

The next step will be that the digital only soystation 6 will have shitty hard drives that die in like a year or two and either can't be replaced or is ridiculously expensive to do so.

Sony really lost their way, it's sad. I'm not getting a PS6, maybe the controller at best if it's an improvement over the PS5's.

PS3 was the last one I bought, removing backward compatibility was the final straw for me. They got too greedy.

Individual games aside, I've always felt like Sony never had a cohesive body of franchises compared to a company like Nintendo or Sega. Nintendo's properties could be pretty different, but they mostly shared cartoonish visual styles. Sega's weren't quite up to that standard of unity, especially leaving out the later developments (which I'm not very familiar with) but there seemed to be more of an overall edge with franchises like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Altered Beast. Sony's consoles had a variety of games, but it comes across like they were just throwing stuff at the wall in regard to the games they were most associated with. I can't say something like this looks very appealing to me.

These days I would probably gravitate more toward exploring the catalogs of the first couple of PlayStations than playing the Nintendo consoles from those eras if I was left by myself, but a lot of the games they were known for don't really seem exciting compared to what Nintendo or Sega had. I thought Ape Escape and Spyro looked interesting when I was a kid and don't think Crash Bandicoot is bad, but I've become pickier and it's usually more niche games I'd rather play now. That's true to an extent with other consoles too, but I think Nintendo's hold up the best in that regard. Their first-party releases were typically high quality back in the day, but there were still definitely quality games to try that were more obscure. Sony always felt to me like more of a mishmash. I don't think there's ever been a Sony-associated franchise (i.e., not something a company like Square put out) that I've felt knocked it out of the park.

Nintendo has worked hard to make sure the modern man forgets Jumping Flash, they want Mario 64 to be remembered as the first 3d platformer.
You are right that they have never had a cohesive lineup, I started looking through all the games released on PS1 that were actually made by Sony devs, and these were the only PS1 guys that were made by Sony and not in All-Stars

Jumping Flash! is one I remember seeing on Game Sack years ago, and I've always thought it looked more interesting than most 3D platformers. Super Mario 64 never looked that fun to me. I'm glad that Mario Kart 64 was the pack-in game with my Nintendo 64 and not that.

PS1 was peak for me, PS2 was also great, PS3 and PS4 were fine, PS5… I though it sucked, but at least it ran disks. I'm not getting the PS6.

It's sad to see Sony lose their way like this.

Sony started losing their way in the middle of the PS3's lifecycle when they removed backward compatibility with new versions of the hardware when they realized they could resell people their PS2 games again digitally. That left such a bad taste in my mouth that I haven't bought a PS console since.

Nah, worse still was following in Xboxs footsteps with sucking off multiplat AAA, and then developing them inhouse.
That was the end for me, they've been following that high ever since despite Xbox being on it's deathbed due to that unsustainable act that was only done due to Microsofts fuckhuge pile of money.
