Except he did. The thing to remember about narcissists (which Billy very obviously is) is that among the many other kinds of abusive behaviors that narcissists engage in, they are also chronic underachievers: Their fragile egos demand that they habitually avoid attempts to improve themselves, rather than confront the cognitive dissonance of their carefully constructed image of themselves not living up to reality. In his mind, his self worth spanning his entire adult life rests upon the foundation that he was some great video game wizard as a kid. He had to defend that image at all costs because he's an empty person on the inside with no other way to measure his self worth. When you understand the psychology of a narcissist it's not really a surprise that he cheated.
