That's smart on their part to add in a worthless AR gimmick to deal with people that play their games on other hardware. More and more cheap ARM and x86 tablets are going to come out that will be more than powerful enough to play their games through emulation. 4 cents worth of an ASIC to do AR can potentially cut down enormously on piracy and require every game have it patched out if that's even feasible.

Add in tie ins for scanning associated products or at their theme parks and this could be a significant advantage for them.

I'm excited about this.

I never owned one, but when I was a little boy, I lived right by a Blockbuster where they had a Virtual Boy kiosk set up, and I would go to play it often.

I'll never forget when I was in a Target when Virtual Boy was being discontinued, and they were clearing out their inventory, they had them marked down to $35, and I still couldn't buy one, because I grew up poor. So this has been a long time coming, for me.

You guys do realize you can finally emulate Virtual Boy on the 3DS right? The one platform Nintendo completely missed an opportunity to do appropriate and fitting Virtual Boy releases on, and it's been left up to homebrew devs to correct their mistake. It works great, you should try it out.

I don't think it's actually worth installing though since virtual boy only has two good games and one honestly doesn't look all that great (Wario Land and Jack Bros)
I believe a lot of the cheap chink consoles support it now too, but they obviously can't output 3d images.

I wonder if this new accessory could potentially be used to view original 3D games, or even emulated 3DS games.
