I've been enjoying the DLC for Eastward, I'm not really into farm sims, I went into it blindly and it has kind of grown on me.

Stardew isn't a farm sim-its creator very correctly recognizes it as a kind of RPG. That's also exactly why it managed to avoid the pitfalls of many of the later Harvest Moon games that made them so dull and tedious.
