People like to collect things, and once you start, each new addition has to fit thematically. Some people don't have the space or time for multiple categories, or they're obsessed with the variations of specific things.
The companies know this, and they offer it to you interlaced with what used to be a harmless video game.
Men need a garage and a den at the very least. Take away their time and money, and they buy shit like this. That's why there's a new fad every few years because people wake up and realize they just fucked themselves. If I had to guess when this first began, I'd say it was Beanie Babies.

Meeting an old friend just to find out they turned into a complete faggot is always depressing. Met an old friend a few years back that I'd known from jr. high to college just to find out he's married to an old cum sock I used in college with three kids that very obviously aren't his. For me, Funkos are for plebeian suckers for every consumer fad. They're not cute; they're ugly. They're a degradation of all the characters from these franchises, with their simplistic characteristics and soulless, big black eyes.

Why wouldn't you want to collect something aesthetic like pic related instead of spending money on that shit?

That was just one of the first examples to come to mind. Sure, there are better anime figures, but even a mediocre anime figure is infinitely better than Funkoshit.
