Closest I have is a cold steel tanto knock off from aliexpress for around $20. Should have spent more and got the model with metal pommel.
Finding unauthorized production runs of big brand knives on aliexpress or DHgate is getting harder, back a few years ago it was amazing. Comes out of the same factory using the same materials but is sold for a quarter of the price.

I own a couple made by Musashi before they went out of business.
>>141070Kult of Athena is a good sword seller. They'll even sharpen them for you for an extra fee, although katanas are almost always sharp out of the box anyway. Hanwei are usually pretty good and affordable. Cold Steel is fine too but they have a tendency to make their swords much heavier than the historical originals were and that usually gives them poor balance and little finesse. But if you can work with that, they cut pretty well. Just make sure you get something made out of carbon steel and has a full tang.

I'd imagine some people aim low and get something cheap then save up for something better later until eventually they have dozens of swords. Why not get the best one you can and keep that forever
No.141105
>>141103Because there are many different sword designs out there with subcategories for each of them and spending a huge amount on something that might not suit you can be avoided by buying a cheap version to learn the basics and understand what you need.
For example I'd love to buy a tai chi sword but those are incredibly hard to find the right one and later on as you get good with it you can have a heavier and longer one with slightly more flexibility. There's also unsharpened variants for sparring/legal reasons.

They're relatively easy to find. I got mine for 500 bucks which is somewhat on the expensive side but it's in good condition so I think it was worth it. The ammunition is insanely rare and not really made anymore

>>141124I mean the USD is worthless, everything's like that. Old good condition basically anything is worth a good bit of money. The 38 has rifling, varnish is good, still has the original markings on it. Ups the value somewhat. I've spent retarded money for far older and worse condition, dunno what to tell you. I've got a huge collection of WW1 era stuff and functional firearms that went through a big-ass war are pretty rare a century out which commands a somewhat better price if you want them in shooting condition.
I dunno how obsolete it is. Shoots very flat, easy to hit with, shockingly low recoil for being a military rifle. Just gotta make the bullets.

Honestly found katanas to be shit the shape makes them prone to breaking against anything that has a hard core. Theres a reason why in the 17th century they started importing European made Sabers. The asian swords are a meme.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFu11mSutd0>>141149I had a friends family that owned a dojo so I got to play with a lot of swords. I still remember his dad demonstrating with a expensive katana and going to japan to bring more of them back showed off with the chopping power on a small tree it snapped and got stuck in the tree it was funny because a cheap gladius cut right through the tree. They went through different brands the katanas never lasted. I think you just are obsessed with the weeb culture and false mysticism around katanas. Europeans have the best swords because they had to deal with the best armor katanas can't even cut through chainmail.
>>141135Yet Suishinshi Masahide published reports of many blades in the Osaka Shintō style* breaking. And many others styles breaking. Sabers were just better made. The katana style is just obsolete and has a inferior process compared to any sword from Europe. The koreans have the same problem they over estimate the deadliness of their medieval era weapons because they were used on armored opponents.

Why would you ever need to chop down a tree with a sword? Do we live in minecraft and have to build a boat to escape the enemy?

Nice trolling. Be sure to constantly samefag the thread.
No.141161
I don't see how a katana unable to cut through dangling chainmail is even a test. Drape it on a person in combat and have them duke it out with ample pressure against the mail, and there will likely be a different result.
I also find it difficult to believe that most of the katanas on the market are actually good. There's such a difference in craftmanship just due to the changes in metallurgy.
>While folding tamahagane steel was necessary to homogeneously distribute carbon and remove impurities, today's modern steel is uniform, pure, and ready for use right from the manufacturer. Most production katana blades are now made with carbon steel (1045, 1060, and 1095), spring steels (65MN, 5160, 5166, and 9260), or tool steels (T-10, L6 Bainite, and S7 Shock).
>While these steels do not require the folding necessary to remove impurities, many collectors are still looking for that ripple-like appearance as seen in the traditional katana. While these steels can be folded in the traditional fashion, it takes skill and serious attention to detail when folding. If the swordsmith is inexperienced or rushed when folding, there is a high likelihood the metal will have air pockets, weak points, and inclusions that could greatly weaken the sword.
