Direct prose should only be used if you are writing something really complex and dense.

Lolita didn't make the nips lolicons, they have had a long history of it before that. I do think the book might have helped in injecting jewish poison into their minds since the authors wife was a Russian Jew.

Balzac is one of the most overrated writers who ever lived. The main reason Boomers love him so much is strictly political.

>>5876I've noticed this too, during the late 19th century and throughout the 20th century France lost the talent for producing any really good and original writers.
So much so that the best French writers of the 20th century were in fact of other nationalities fleeing the Soviet Union and only gained citizenship.
No.5893
>>5888I think that was a thing throughout the West. English literature also went downhill during that time. I read this old book about Victorian literature and it mentions that all the best books of the era were written in the first half of Victoria's reign. There were plenty of good books written in the second half, but hardly any great ones.
Germany produced, what, Fontane and Mann, and that's it? Russia had some good writers, but they were also behind Western Europe in almost every way. Norway had Ibsen, but, again, Scandinavia was often behind England, France, Germany, etc. too. I can't think of anything significant from Italy or Spain from that time.
American writers like Twain and Bierce were a clear step down from the days of Poe and Melville.
I guess it was just an age of extreme decadence. Books from it are very comfy, though, even if they're not masterpieces.

Don DeLillo is just another big city clueless faggot who hate "the nazis" and "small cities folk" and don't understand why eventually everything started to became shit in the 2000s.
He got prizes but his books aged badly and the same left-winger faggots who used to praise him back in the day are now letting him fall into the oblivion for not being left-winger enough.

Moby Dick? More like Moby Gay.
It's no wonder that Muttmericans think that this TRASH book can be considered on the same level as European classics.
When even Latin American books I've read were better and less HOMOSEXUAL AND CRINGE than Moby Faggy.
This TRASH book worthy of being considered a Tumblr core was shilled by MUTTmericans in a desperate attempt to pretend to be as good as the Europeans.
And guess what, decades later midwits closet homos losers actually bought the propaganda.
Moby Dick is perhaps the most overrated book written by a man along with The Lord of the Rings.
If you think Moby Dicklet deserves to be in the top 100 best books ever written you deserve the rope, troon.

Apart from that I maintain that Moby Dick is overrated, the USA only got really good writers during the early 20th century, all the praise for Melville was a gayop which ended up working, is still artificial and forced.
>>6016>>6026Films are only better than books if you are a retarded who can't mentally visualize the story, and hates to stop and analyze any phrase, theme or metaphor. And nowadays you can simply put on background music to accompany your reading, making the experience even better than simply watching a flick.

>>4690Contrarian opinions are, more often than not, poser opinions. In spaces like this, they often turn into a circlejerk of people trying to out-edge each other just to seem unique. It stops being about literature and becomes a loop of performative disagreement.
The value of an opinion shouldn't come from how unpopular it is, but from how honestly it engages with the work. Contrarianism should be a byproduct of genuine thought, not a personality trait.
I always thought that was the sentiment behind the disdain for reddit culture and homogeneity on 4chan-actually expressing real opinions that don't try to appeal to anyone.
That said, most of the contrarian opinions in this thread are pretty heckin based.
