Memewave reached its peak a while ago. This year is the 10th anniversary of Turbulence by Miami Nights 1984. It's still some of the only good music coming out of this era though, even if the nu-'80s aesthetic feels tired out after being plundered by normalfags for years.

Peak of cinema was 70s, but the 80s-00s still had good stuff.

>>2228Interesting. Is that par for the course for the genre nowadays? I stopped paying attention to vaporwave a long time ago, so I must be out of the loop. I was thinking of the style of Floral Shoppe and Eccojams Vol. 1. I knew that original albums existed but didn't know how common they were.

>>2236I like both honestly, vaporwave started off was some goons ironic fantasy music but evolved into something actually genuine using samples.
Synthwave is just pure genuine love for the 80s.

>>2238>Synthwave is just pure genuine love for the 80s.The problem is that a lot of it just focuses on a few common pop culture reference points and not any kind of broader appreciation for the '80s.
No.2241
>>2238>>2239My issue with blatant retro trends like synthwave is that they're parodying meme 80s tropes with little context or nowing what made that zeitgeist what it was (IE money laundering and hard drugs). It's just third rate worship of the worst sort and with an audience pretentious and lazy enough to support it instead of looking for electronic music from the 80s.

Post some good whatever-wave. There's far too much of this stuff now, and it's hard to know where to start.

>>2704>It's competent music but the fact that it's as meta as it is or outright tries to pretend to be from the era it's ripping off is what is so grating. If it was more closely imitating the era it's inspired by, then I'd like it a lot more. Most of it just seems to be recycling increasingly flanderized and inauthentic facets of what is supposedly '80s pop culture. It's fine if it lays things on a bit thick (some actual '80s music did just that), but the focus tends to be so narrow. All the Blade Runner and John Carpenter references just feel so played out at this point. I also would much rather have something more wistful and emotive than the balls-to-the-wall style that seems to be popular, especially with how overly modern the production tends to sound.
>It's fake nostalgia for shit you have no relation to yet you appropriate as your own.'80s cultural artifacts didn't just vanish into thin air once 1990 rolled around. A lot of us grew up with them.
>Nah I'm calling you for what you are, faggot. Faux nostalgia and poseurdom is the millennials bread and butter, and I can't wait for it to die off and be forgotten.Better to look back to better eras than to lie to yourself and pretend that things haven't gotten shittier since then. Having a genuine interest in an era you weren't alive for doesn't make you a poseur.

>>2720They're trying to appropriate it into their little ideological box because they like it, but the claim that vaporwave is politically-driven music doesn't hold up to scrutiny. I've been listening to it from the beginning, and I'm as conservative as they come. I don't hear politics in it at all. Just emotion and nostalgia (for an arguably more conservative time).
