Are they kike'd? I want to listen to new music that isn't kike'd because so far I've only listened to classical but I'm getting burned out after 16 years. No black metal and no rap of any form please.

Metal Thread

What are some bands that are musically similar to Lost Horizon? I haven't been able to find anyone else like them, and it's upsetting that they only put out two albums before they disbanded. Daniel Heiman recently did an album with some Danish guys and while the vocals are there, it's not what I was expecting and I realized that it needs those high-flying drums and guitars along with (for lack of a better term) the uplifting/godlike lyrics it comes with. They're undoubtedly my favorite band and I would love to find more like them.

I was listening to this yesterday, and it really made me think about how well-written English love songs are universally relatable.

For me, Lilian conveys feelings of love we've all felt. The vocalist describes the unique physical traits of this woman, but most of us have shared the emotion he expresses, for many different kinds of women.

What I'm trying to say is that you can basically ad lib the traits describing the woman, including her name, and still relate to the overall meaning of the lyrics.

It's a balancing act, however. Too much specific information about the subject's personality, or events that occurred in their lives, causes a rift between the singer and the listener. The listener becomes more of a third-person observer, or cuckold.

Without even getting into the excellent composition of this song, Lilian is the Goldilocks of melodeath love ballads. It does not go into detail about their personal lives, and remains purposely vague enough for the listener to self-insert.

The video is kino, and it even adds some ambiguity to the lyrics toward the end as far as the outcome of the relationship.

Big Money Balvin vs. Based Travis

All right, /ost/. Since this is the official designated music board, I figured I'd ask the experts: Who IS the better musician, Travis Scott (of the Travis Scott Meal, six dollars at McDonald's) or J Balvin (of the JBalvin Meal, also available at McDonald's, with the McFlurry free if you order it on McDonalds' app). Who will win in this battle of the bands?

Over the holidays, my uncle and I were talking about music and he mentioned how the way music was recorded radically changed in the 90's. He said that recording techniques advanced to the point where you could digitally fix even the smallest flaw with any recording. In his opinion, these techniques made the music sound too clean and soulless. Is there any truth to this? I've noticed that I dislike the way music from the 90's and on was sounded (not necessarily the music itself, but the production), but I was never able to put my finger on what exactly the problem was.

For 1980s music lovers, I wanted to recommend an online radio station I have been listening to for over a year.

http://hi5.1980s.fm/;/;.m3u - the link I use to listen

They have over 20,000 songs, so not only do they have hit singles, they also have album tracks. And you can sign up and request songs too. I have discovered so much good music I never knew existed! Bands/singers from all over the world.

This radio network also has a few other stations, though none of them are my tastes:
Death.fm - Black/Death Metal
Streamingsoundtracks.com - Movie Scores
Entranced.fm - Ambient/Lounge
Adaigo.fm - Classical

My Epiphone Les Paul sounds like shit whenever I play an F chord on it. Almost like a muted sitar. I've been playing for years and never had this happen before. It sounds fine when I play the chord on other guitars, both acoustic and electric. I even tried playing on another Epiphone Les Paul and it sounded fine. It's only on this one guitar. I already tried changing the strings and it's still happening.

In '87, Huey released this… Fore. Their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is 'Hip To Be Square', a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics, but they should. Because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of friends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Thoughts on Nic Sequeira's new single?

I've been hearing a lot of hype lately about Nic Sequeira's new single, "The Girl With The Crystal Plumage." I decided to give it a listen about an hour ago:

I am still blown away by this new Direction Sequeira is going in. I never would have guessed that the same guy behind "Jam It Like You Mean It" back in 2019 would now be producing this weird psychedelia. I can definitely see what all the fuss is about this guy, and I honestly have no idea what he'll be getting up to next.

What did you think about this one? Was it a disappointment?

McRib peace from out the way

I say I'd pay my soul for this
You say a burger can't be that good
But all this burger's misunderstood

MewithoutYou was a band I fell in love with back in high school. I haven't heard of any new albums in recent years and when I went to update myself it turns out they disbanded over the last year or so. Feels bad that I completely missed the chance to see them live one last time. The early stuff was, as it usually goes, mostly the best but they kept a pretty solid standard to the end all the same. The only song of theirs I ever actively disliked was "Allah, Allah, Allah". The price to pay for hipster Judeo-Christian music. It was also a little disappointing that they didn't go as far in exploring the Modest Mouse-tier sound they seemed to utilize in their [Untiled] album. RIP, mewithoutYou. I'll miss you.

Current mainstream pop music worth listening to

I'm mostly an 80s fan but there's a few modern artists I really enjoy that keep putting out good music instead of the forced garbage that most do, usually with rappers and music that couldn't catch on if the media didn't shill it 24/7. Very few artists today release hits comparable to the torrent of hits that the 80s were, but I'm sure those few will be remembered by nostalgics 40 years for now.
For me, those artists today are Dua Lipa, Ava Max and Lennon Stella.

I really like power pop (more so the music from the 70's and early 80's that was retroactively called power pop than the jangle pop and college rock of the late 80's or the gay self-conscious power pop of the 90's onwards) but I feel like a faggot when I tell people that because a)the genre has an image of being made by scrawny incels for scrawny incels and b)the name "power pop" itself is incredibly gay. Are there any types of music you have this problem with?
