Nobody in my immediate family growing up drank around me, so not drinking has always just seemed like the default setting. And the older I've gotten, I've gradually learned stories about family members having had bad experiences with alcohol.
The problem was that the food contained too many chili peppers. They were mostly in small chunks and weren't very hot, but they were still concentrated enough that it became a big problem. I was kind of looking forward to eating it too.
