Time for a new one.
Remember when PPP and Surfer reviewed this episode?

It honestly does because it just had a based chad go around btfo'ing traitors and getting with a quality stacy, gives me Conan the barbarian vibes, but it space of course.

I also watched a bit of Stargate, honestly the series was a lot better than the movie, not that the movie didn't have any redeeming qualities.

So, anons, what do you think about season 4 of The X-Files?
I consider it one of the best of the show but in retrospect it is far inferior to seasons 2 and 3.

Never watched the X-Files. I've got such disdain for the FBI because of their behavior in real life that I don't think I could enjoy the show.

 No.347625

>>347622
Later 80's and early 90's had several shows making the FBI the funny but good and talented guys. It's a legitimate phenomenon, only cattle don't realize it.
But I would recommend that you should watch The X-Files or Twin Peaks regardless of your hatred for the feds.

Not even close, 2 and 3 are non-stop bangers, Season 4 is 50/50 at best. It does have a few of the scariest episodes of the whole show however and the underrated and comfy Small Potatoes

Do you love the comedic episodes of the X-Files, anon? They seem to be very praised nowadays, but I feel like a lot have some proto-reddit humor and writing in them.
For me season 3 is the best by far, season 2 have some weak episodes, but have a really nice aesthetic since I'm a sucker for early 90's and British Columbia aesthetic.

There are barely any so I don't really feel strongly about them, I think they're okay. But I do think X-Files is so watchable because there are a mix of lighthearted and heavier episodes, and there is a lot of witty writing in there that makes me smile even if it's not gut-bustingly funny. I tried watching Millennium which is supposed to be similar to X-Files and I made it like six episodes because every episode was about some gruesome fucked up murder.

There are a good number of episodes with a comedic tone, I'd say it was mainly in the third season and then in season 6. I was a kid when the show was on television and I remember that when it came to markiting they went more for the horror angle. I didn't follow the show at the time because I was still quite young and I was scared of the first episode I saw (Duane Barry).

But it seems to me that over the years most of the episodes that are still fondly remembered and considered the best are precisely those with a more comedic vein. But unfortunately this ends up attracting le redditors who think the show was only good as a comedy and hate the episodes with a darker or more serious tone.
I would say that during the early seasons the episodes with a comedy tone had a bit of dark humor mixed into the mix with witty writing as you've said, rather than just cheap sitcom humor like episodes in later seasons. Or even worse, in later seasons some episodes with a humorous tone were too pretentious but far from smart.

See

S5.E12 ∙ Bad Blood is a good one, but more in the absurd side of humor with some satirical tone without spoiling the episode.

Meanwhile in season six I don't like S6.E3 ∙ Triangle and S6.E6 ∙ How the Ghosts Stole Christmas which are often lauded as some of the show's best episodes.

S7.E3 ∙ Hungry returned a bit to the old style of comedy episodes like S3.E22 ∙ Quagmire, was one of the few in later seasons that really made me smile with its humor.

And from what I remember, much of the criticism about seasons 8 and 9, especially season 8, was that the tone of the show became much more serious and dark. I'd say season 8 is better than season 7 overall.
Like Lost, during the show's original run X-Files fans expected too much from the Mythology arc and took it too seriously. With how disappointing it turned out to be, I think it's only natural that so many years after the show ended, fans have started to enjoy the monster-of-the-week episodes more.

To me the mark of "reddit humor" is a lack of sincerity, basically just writing some stupid shit so you don't have to risk actually trying and failing. I don't think anything X-Files qualifies because it is sincerely trying to be funny/charming even if it doesn't land.

>X-Files fans expected too much from the Mythology arc and took it too seriously

I haven't finished the show but I don't like the mythos episodes that much. It just makes Mulder and the government look like obsessed retards who hyperfixate on aliens meanwhile there is telekinesis and mind control and vampires and shit that is also real.

Sci-fi is another genre that has declined in recent years, both in literature and in cinema. Even when it comes to series. Sci-fi has become more brown, pretentious and generic.
I'd rather just watch a sci-fi show from the 90s and 2000s than any "beautiful and progressive" show from nowadays.
And I definitely prefer reading sci-fi books from the 60s and 70s over anything from the 2010s and 2020s.

>I also watched a bit of Stargate, honestly the series was a lot better than the movie, not that the movie didn't have any redeeming qualities.
The movie had an exotic and otherwordly feeling to it that the show never managed to reconnect with until Universe ran and bothered providing real different locales which were pretty to look at. Anyways, the show could have not survived the current political climate. For one you could not have the USA be on more or less friendly terms with Russia. The show also kind of jumped the shark when it introduced the human starships and kept making the Egyptian ones the laughing stock of the show.

They certainly had a different vision, that is for sure, I do like the way the original movie felt a well.
>The show also kind of jumped the shark when it introduced the human starships and kept making the Egyptian ones the laughing stock of the show.
With guns I got that the show is military propaganda, but I liked that it showed that in fact modern weaponry we have is in fact more advanced than supposed laser weapons as well as more efficient. That being said I also thought the human ships being so OP so fast was kinda retarded.

>The show also kind of jumped the shark when
When the entire cast of Farscape joined for some inexplicable reason.

I also never liked how the show shat on the movie lore and basically ensured we would never get a proper sequel. Roland Emerich makes a lot of slop now but Stargate was his best.

We will never have this level of kino again.

I'm not even a nostalgia fag or a bitter loser like Nuzach, but holy shit, I would love to be stuck in the 2000s again. All my ex-girlfriends and crushes were still far from hitting the wall. Peak imageboard culture. Peak vidya. Peak tv. Great era for ttrpgs. I could have done without any books after this decade.
The only thing I would say I would miss is the music, because unless you are a total normalfag you can still find a lot of good music still being released.
