>>367820Prior to WW2, most intelligence was rolled into the military. The Marshals were primarily a law enforcement organization, responsible for carrying out law and order in the Federal territories.

>>367823Before the OSS I don't think military intelligence operated domestically. I think the Marshals/Gangs collusion was probably real.

>>367825The Army was actively involved in intelligence, reconnaissance, and espionage operations during the period of westward expansion and the Indian Wars. They watched what the Indians were doing, they shared information about safe routes with pioneers, and they had scientists like geographers plotting out the West.

>>367813The Sabata trilogy, which were almost a spin-off of the Dollars trilogy, were surprisingly watchable despite the sometimes nonsensical writing. The director just focused on showing off cool looking shit and I honestly found both van Cleef and Yul Brynner - the two actors who portrayed the titular character over three movies - more charismatic than ol' Clint.

>>367813i love this film. the scene of the train arriving at the start is excellently shot. the ost is also excellent. casey afflek has a natural air of melancholy about him.
while i like to recommend this film, it is not a western where a hero protagonist fight against the antagonist, an action story that most people expect. it is more about the (mind? heart?) of jesse james and robert ford.
it is also a long film and maybe a bit slow for most people. i fell asleep the first time watching it before bed, but loved it when i watched it again the next day.
No.368701
>>368700IIRC I fell asleep watching this one too lol. I'll have to give it another try on your recommendation.
No.368702
>>368073decent film, unique setting but the ending will always leave a sour taste in your mouth.
4/10 would not rewatch or recommend.
No.368703
>>368701this film definitely deserves a rewatch every few years. not too often though because it makes you melancholic.
i prefer happier or heroic film to (get through/escape) life easier.
