I'll never forget seeing this in the theater and some old man walked out with his family visibly upset, I think he was an actual WW2 vet and the D-Day scene triggered him.

With hindsight, this was ultimately the kind of moronic propaganda used to launder the expansion of NATO in the '90s and '00s. Teaching a new generation of Americans (and Europeans tbh) that America did precisely fuck all in liberating Europe from the Nazis and burying the apocalyptic experience of eastern Europeans.
