>Sharp, seductive and emotionally guarded Tira is a lauded and much-adored circus performer. Her newest suitor, a married New York City socialite named Kirk Lawrence, showers her with gifts. Kirk's cousin, Jack Clayton, goes to Tira to try and convince her to end the affair. The two fall for one another, but when love and happiness risk taking Tira from the stage, her boss plots to break off the engagement and shackle her to the circus forever.

>On April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explodes in the Gulf of Mexico, igniting a massive fireball that kills several crew members. Chief electronics technician Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg) and his colleagues find themselves fighting for survival as the heat and the flames become stifling and overwhelming. Banding together, the co-workers must use their wits to make it out alive amid all the chaos.

>John Milius fictionalizes the historical story of President Roosevelt's attempts to deal with the kidnapping of an American citizen by a Moroccan Sheikh. Leaving cynicism way behind, Milius veers away from conspiracy theories and turns instead to adventure with plenty of action.

The Wind and the Lion was disappointing. I didn't know that much about it going in, but I disliked the unlikely love story between an American woman and a romantic Berber bandit (as chaste as it is) and the way it spun history. I found it distasteful the way Americans got talked into fighting the EVIL GERMANS to benefit some dune coon brigand. What is the German Empire doing with that kind of a military force in Morocco, anyway? It's like they just shoehorned them into a villainous role as the eternal Hun. I get that they wanted something more commercial than an accurate portrayal of the Perdicaris affair, but the changes they made to the story don't sit well with me.

On the positive side, Brian Keith was really good as Theodore Roosevelt. His voice might not be sound like the real guy's, but he sounds more cinematic. Keith's performance stole the show.

I think something like Gunga Din did a better job as a Hollywood imperial adventure movie with a sympathetic non-white character.
