In fact there's a fair number of '80s and '90s OVAs more intelligent than than LGH that didn't feel the need to stretch out a shallow story over a thousand episodes.

I think it depends on what is meant by post-earth. I'll be interpreting it as "it is possible and for a human to be born off-Earth and live their entire life without going to Earth." Notably, since it's post-Earth, it must a setting where Earth is confirmed to exist, as opposed to Star Wars, VOTOMS, Kaiba, etc.
Only stuff I've seen and like:

Captain Harlock (and the rest of Leijiverse by extension)
Gundam main universe (probably most spin-offs too)
LOGH
G Fighter Gundam (it's almost all set on Earth, but most of Humanity lives in space)

Gankutsuo (I've only seen the first episode but it looks kino)
