>In this noir classic, detective Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) gets more than he bargained for when he takes a case brought to him by a beautiful but secretive woman (Mary Astor). As soon as Miss Wonderly shows up, trouble follows as Sam's partner is murdered and Sam is accosted by a man (Peter Lorre) demanding he locate a valuable statuette. Sam, entangled in a dangerous web of crime and intrigue, soon realizes he must find the one thing they all seem to want: the bejeweled Maltese falcon.

I remember liking the original version of The Thing better than the John Carpenter one, even if the latter is way more popular.

Have you played the game?

I bought the remaster by Nightdive on sale, haven't gotten around to playing it yet. It's supposed to be a direct sequel to Carpenter's Thing.

The thing (eh) with the 1951 film is that the tension and character interaction is fantastic but the payoff is terrible since the monster is just silly, a fucking alien Frankensteins monster wannabe.
Should have at least given the actor a mask.

No, I don't really play survival horror games.

I agree. I'll give the Carpenter version credit in that the creatures themselves are way more interesting. I've always thought the special effects are enough of a reason to give it a watch, but it's not something I ever really come back to.

I think the monster is fine, so long as you take the movie on its own terms. Of course it isn't as good as Carpenter's monster, but it's not supposed to be that kind of alien. It's supposed to be a regenerating vegetable monster. They did as they could with that concept. It helps that you don't really get a good look at it until near the end.

I'm not comparing it to the 80s remake, conpletely different standards and time.
The issue is that even compared to stuff of the time and before it, the monster is middling at best.
Mediocre visual design and he acts like Frankenstein.

It was a fucking sacrifice moving on those things, constricting, extremely hot, uncomfortable.
The fact that they were able to move and act on them at all is a goddamned miracle.
They really did kick ass

The monstrous apes they played were so much cooler than real gorillas. I don't care that they're not realistic.
