People in general used to speak more eloquently and be more purposeful with their words. The degradation of language, the casualization of culture and daily life all ends up with nobody putting in any effort, which is why it all sounds and looks so trite.

It was definitely better put together propaganda. I can't say I have much nostalgia for it outside the more quality story-telling like Scorsese works in particular.
