I miss watching documentaries as a kid. For me, it was the Hitler Channel. I actually went and mass downloaded a bunch of these documentaries back when they were easier to find on JewTube.

It's not that I don't still love documentaries, but I meant the overall experience. Like coming home from school and plopping down on the couch and watching History's Mysteries or whatever. I remember how excited I got when Mail Call was first airing. At that time, a lot of the subject matter shows would cover was still new to me, so at that time it was genuinely educational viewing for me. A lot of it feels like surface-level info now that better sources of knowledge are more easily available, but I guess there are still some more niche topics they covered that would still be worth watching for me. I remember an episode of In Search of History about Roger's Rangers, for example, which isn't something I know very much about.

I preferred the production quality of the old '90s and early 2000s shows more than stuff like in this video. That wasn't long before the cracks really started to show, I think. I stopped habitually watching TV once the History Channel decided to start airing crap like Ice Road Truckers constantly, which wasn't much later. Nowadays there's much more choice as far as documentary selection is concerned, but I miss the feel of the old days.

Arguably, the shallow WW2 propaganda on the History Channel played a role in miseducating an entire generation of Americans into thinking America did anything substantial in defeating the Nazis. The result is extreme ignorance about Russia, and consent for the proxy war currently being waged against them.

Also ironically, in spite of the incessant Hitler shows on the Hitler Channel I don't feel like I actually learned any of the important things about Weimar and Nazi Germany that actually mattered. It's actually kind of amazing how they could focus on one subject and still tell so little about it.

That's definitely a common misconception about WWII, but I think it's kind of expected that a U.S.-based channel spent so much time focusing on the parts of the war the U.S. was involved with.

As simplistic as it could be, a lot of the WWII stuff I remember wasn't really focused on the war as a whole. I remember one of the first shows I remember seeing talking about the role the T-34 played on the Eastern Front, for example. There were episodes of shows all about specific areas or even individual pieces of technology. While the channel deserved its reputation for focusing too much on WWII, they actually had shows on a variety of topics. I just think it all started declining around the mid 2000s, which isn't that long after I first began watching it. They gradually cranked up the flashy production values and sensationalism in a way that hurt the channel.

The Soviet role in WWII is overlooked, but Jewtin should be keeping his paws off Europe.

To be fair, it's kind of a complex topic where it's easy to fall prey to misconceptions. While I kind of get the need to balance rigor with mass appeal, they could have used more of the former.
