After the Microsoft acquisition, the Rare founders and most of the original team left to do their own thing. They got a lot of the gang together to form Playtonic, and they actually made a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie a few years ago called Yooka-Laylee that was pretty good.

They made the best games on N64. You had to have been there. Most of them still hold up, and they were a big influence on the games that came after them.

They both had their strengths and weaknesses. PlayStation had a ton of games, but most of it was shovelware. The loading times were terrible. Where it excelled was primarily with JRPGs, which took advantage of the CD format.
