>>164972>Fucking Doom 3 is in the coverI remember how it was all over magazines like GamePro back then. It was huge, and the graphics looked really realistic for the time.
>I owned Doom95 and played that shit religiously in 1999I got into it in the middle of the 2000s because I got pic related from Wal-Mart for $10 after already being familiar with the series due to my cousin, and Doom95 was what that came with. Source ports like ZDoom weren't even on my radar until years later when I got even more into the game.
I still really appreciate the Doom95 launcher. ZDL is similar, but I wish it was more common for source ports to include interfaces like that.
>Older folks didn't care>Being pretty Christian surely didn't help our fear.Me and my cousin both grew up in households like that too. I think I recall seeing Doom for the first time at his house, and I think my mom said something about it being a bad game. She was oddly permissive in some ways given how young I was when I got into some of the games I did.
By the time I was a teenager, she didn't seem to care that I was playing Doom.
>I finished it 3 years later with some uneasiness and replayed it once or twice since then and think it's a mediocre pile of shit in terms of gameplay.I remember a party my family had once when I was in my late teenage years where we snuck off to the basement and messed around with Doom 3, but none of us seemed fazed by it at that point. This was years after it came out. My brother was running it on his laptop, and my cousin had already had the game for a while. I never even bothered playing it. The gameplay looked too different from the classic Doom games. I always appreciated the straightforward gameplay of Doom and Wolfenstein, but simplicity took a back seat with Doom 3.
I would still rather give it a try than any of the Nu-Doom games. I was curious about it seeing it in magazines and on TV when I was young, so I would just be following up on something that caught my attention when I was growing up. On the other hand, I never had any interest in the Nu-Doom games whatsoever.
