Hey Gahoole, do you still post here? I remember you saying you did washing machine repair a few years ago. I have a Whirlpool top loader (similar to pic related but it may not be the exact same model) that's not working. No matter what I tell it to do, it just flashes the sense, done and lock lights over and over. Also the lid won't lock. I've unplugged it for minutes, sometimes hours at a time, and plugged it back in, but that doesn't change anything. Also, when I try spinning the barrel by hand, I hear the sound of water swishing and I don't think it's supposed to do that.
Any idea what's going on and about how much it would cost to have someone fix it?

But new ones cost like 500 dollars and I just had to pay the property tax. Is there really nothing I can do? I've only had it for like a year.

That's unusual, I've got several Whirlpool appliances I've had pretty good luck with, a floor model fridge I purchased 11 years ago, and a dryer that's like 15 years old, still going strong.

No expert but you likely have some sort of leak, might wanna take it out and see if you can drain it. Your gonna want to do it fast before rust takes place.

Dont you have warranty on it? Typically they give out like 5-10 years warranty of appliances like a washing machine. Typically never breaks down within the time frame.

Wrong.
>Typically never breaks down within the time frame.
It's true you should get at least 5-10 years out of an appliance, but you're screwed if it does break down after the first year, if you didn't purchase the extended warranty.

 No.161328

Yeah, I still post here. Not interested in fixing your dish washer.

No they don't. You will get, at best, a one year limited warranty with most appliance manufacturers. You absolutely need to spring for the extended warranty. Trust me bro, this isn't like back in the old days when you could just crack shit open and repair it yourself. Modern washers are loaded with computer and designed for obsolesce. It is MUCH cheaper to throw an extra $100 down when you purchase a new appliance than it is to pay a repairman to come out with his computer and flash the memory to reset the damn thing.

I am having to deal with a similar situation right now. I didn't get the extended warranty with the refrigerator I bought when I bought this house, and now the fridge is on its last leg three years after I bought it. Wouldn't be that big of a deal except my son is still breast feeding and it is a massive burden on Ms. Pro™ to have to wake up every two hours to feed Lil Pro™ because we can't trust the fridge to keep all the milk the Misses pumped during the day cold.

No you can't fix it new appliances are not really meant to be fixed and often have faults on purpose like icemakers on fridges, just get the warranty you. I just saved you 200 dollars and some literal retard brown dipshit dung eater coming by and saying he can't fix it or does a temporary repair. Next time do your research on appliances and get a good model.

So I am out of the industry now but I worked both in repair and on both the customer facing and manufacturer side of warranty shit.

If you bought it less than a year ago call whirlpool or the place you bought it and have them come out to repair it.
Even if you bought it like a year and a bit ago it's still a good idea to go this route as the limited warranty MAY cover some of the parts cost. Make sure you have the Model, serial, and purchase receipt if you have it. If you don't you can say you "forgot to register it" and say you bought it less than a year ago. Manufacturers literally do not care about this shit and go with what you say 90% of the time (little secret from behind the manufacturing curtain)

If you are set on repairing it yourself here is what I recommend.
1) Based on what you are saying this sounds like a lid lock gone bad or potentially the CPU. If it's the CPU board check the part number on Sears appliance direct by looking up your model number. (That site is not always accurate but it is accessible to end users) First order and replace the lid lock because that is probably under 100 bucks, then look at the cost of the board, weight the time it would take to disassemble the machine and everything with the cost of paying someone to do this for you.

If you got any other questions about shit like this lmk happy to try and help

Usually it's $100 minimum just for them to walk in the door, this is why I still suggest buying a new one despite your insider advice.

You can get interest-free financing with Lowe's and Home Depot, and they often run sales on appliances.
