It's like how in the '80s there was the satanic panic, the '90s had the violent video game panic; today, it's the social media panic. With the former two, free speech ultimately won, but things are different this time around, and it remains to be seen if there will be enough pushback against the new Internet regulations, which have been creeping up like weeds since the mid-2010s.
