An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday, after authorities said she used her vehicle to try to run over federal officers during a targeted enforcement operation.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement that rioters began blocking ICE officers when one of the rioters allegedly attempted to "weaponize her vehicle" to hit law enforcement officials in what they described as an act of "domestic terrorism."

The Trump administration has surged federal immigration enforcement to Maine, with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) saying that 50 people have been arrested so far by immigration officers.
The surge, called "Operation Catch of the Day," began on Tuesday, DHS officials told NewsNation, The Hill's sister network. DHS said the alleged illegal immigrants arrested so far include people convicted of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.
The administration has surged immigration enforcement to cities nationwide, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis and Washington, D.C.
NewsNation reported that the arrests occurred in Lewiston and Portland, Maine's two largest cities, which have significant Somali populations. Somali Americans have been targeted by the Trump administration's escalating presence in Minnesota.
Patricia Hyde, deputy assistant director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told Fox News the agency has about 1,400 "targets" in Maine. The New York Times reported the agency was primarily targeting the Somali community.
Last Wednesday, Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) released an on-camera statement warning of a potential federal immigration operation in the state. She said Maine State Police would "work closely" with local law enforcement if it happened.
"To the federal government I say this: if your plan is to come here to be provocative and to undermine the civil rights of Maine residents, do not be confused - those tactics are not welcome here," Mills said.
The governor also backed those interested in protesting the operation, urging them to do so peacefully.
"To the people of Maine: I know you care deeply about protecting your neighbors, as do I," she noted. "And I know that many of you are angry about the potential for any enhanced federal law enforcement presence in Maine. I feel that too."
"But if they come here, I want any federal agents - and the president of the United States - to know what this state stands for. We stand for the rule of law. We oppose violence. We stand for peaceful protest," Mills continued. "We stand for compassion, for integrity and justice."
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a release Wednesday that Mills and "her fellow sanctuary politicians in Maine have made it abundantly clear that they would rather stand with criminal illegal aliens than protect law-abiding American citizens."
As of 2023, roughly 10,000 migrants without legal status resided in Maine, according to the Pew Research Center. The center also found that in 2023, nearly 6 percent of K-12 students in the Pine Tree State had parents without legal status, with nearly 40 percent of adults without legal status having resided in the state for more than five years.
