I've never understood the appeal of the Jesus character at all. I genuinely don't get it. Even when I was Christian I didn't actually like him, but I felt like I had to show him the proper respect as my get-out-of-Hell-free card. What the Bible is clear about is that Jesus is supposed to be a 1st-century Jewish rabbi and also the messiah, and those are reason enough that no gentile should want anything to do with the character.
