I've never understood the appeal of the Jesus character at all. I genuinely don't get it. Even educated academics who are certain that a historical Jesus existed can't seem to agree on much about him or even demonstrate a reliable methodology for determining anything about him. Was he an apocalyptic prophet, Hellenized philosopher, or a violent anti-Roman revolutionary? Nobody can say for certain.
What the Bible is clear about is that Jesus is supposed to be a 1st-century Jewish rabbi and also the messiah, and those are reason enough that no gentile should want anything to do with the character.
