We now live in a post-truth world. The news is that it's being released to the broader public, this tech was probably used to "film" the moon landings and shit decades ago. Now they're letting the plebs know they can't trust video, what's the next step of their master plan?

They'll use it to continue to controle the proles, and only claim fakery when one of their people gets caught in camera committing some heinous act. Likely they will convene a panel of experts who claim to be able to differentiate between fake videos and real ones and become arbiters of truth. If they're smart they'll do this in a way that's distanced from existing governments and organizations so it looks more trustworthy, but we may just get Mary Poppins and the disinformation governance board or whatever it was called back on steroids. They may even intentionally spread a bunch of conflicting fake videos through the MSM to cause a panic of some kind so that people start demanding this sort organization.
There is a danger that they also use it to discredit a lot of their more vocal opponents by fabricating fake CCTV video of them committing some sort of crime that is widely frowned upon publicly. CCTV video is super low quality so they'd be able to churn out a lot of that at a fairly low cost. Less public facing people being targeted will likely face shoplifting charges or something despite never stealing, with video evidence to condemn them with.
There is likely more that could be done with this technology that I'm not thinking of at the moment. We're in for a wild ride.
