I don't understand how anyone can comfortably use these things unless its some sort of self applied brainwashing technique.

Just another gadget for the goy. They don't offer any advantage over manual brushing. Nonetheless, I use one because I got it for free from my dentist.

I think they're better at dealing with plaque, but yeah the vibrations can't be good, and the frequency could easily be tuned to fuck with you.
