Worst Korea toons are only watchable if you already live in that hellhole. To the rest of world, they're extreme cringe on account of projecting all the worst aspects of a terminally narcissistic society onto a visual medium. The last turd of theirs I spent any time on the main character was trapped into a hell (an MMORPG gacha experience) and literally turned into a boy band twink as he become more powerful.

Kochikame is a showa manga/anime so they're bound to change certain things for modern audiences. Mainly I'm concernes about the purple cop 'girl', Maria. From what i remember? Backstory is that 'She' was originally a male boxer that fell in love with his coach, so then he got a sex change to become a woman but it didnt work out with the coach. He ended becoming a cop and fell in love with the protagonist who ofcourse is disgusted that he is a man, despite being very feminine. In the manga, some magical bullshit happenes and Maria turns into an actual woman.

It'll be interesting how they handle it. It's my understanding the Japs aren't as accepting of troons as the West, fetish manga not withstanding.

Kochikame isn't that famous in the west but it's a classic. The manga had 200 vols, ran for 40 years and is 3rd longest running manga ever. Next year is the 50th anniversary which is why the new anime is showing up. The tranny character is a minor one that rarely appears, the rest of the series is a comedy about the protaginist getting into all sorts of trouble. Despite it's long run, the first anime ran from 1996-2004, a lot more recent than I thought, it was pretty good.

Anyway, regarding trannys, even japan are careful. The original Yakuza 3 game had a side quest involving a tranny but that got removed in the remastered edition.
