Nostalgia operates on a roughly 20 year cycle. Ten years after the fact is too short and nostalgia remains very fringe. Around twenty years after is where it takes off. And about thirty years it wanes.
Hence the sudden emergence of 2000s nostalgia in the last few years. Extrapolating this, assuming WWIII or some other major event doesn't disrupt world culture, by the 2030s, 2010s nostalgia will be the dominant nostalgia, and by the 2040s, 2020s nostalgia will be.
That makes you think, what will people even be nostalgic for? Covid? The culture war?

>>171492A typically incompetent Gahoole video where the only value of the video is his frustration captured in the dimly lit cabin of a car driving down the road.
No one was "extremely online" in 2012 besides 4channers and some Redditors. 2008-2012 was the inflection point between pre-internet society and post-internet society. It was a turning point where the nerds were entrenching themselves and projecting outward, and were beginning to get noticed. I remember Anderson Cooper crying about the jailbait subreddit in 2011. I remember Femshep in 2012. Iremember Foxnews pearl clutching over Mass Effect's alien sex in 2008. Normal people were not extremely online, Gahoole is full of shit. Gahoole is only full of shit, just like the /meta/ thread from back in 2023.
2008-2012 was the turning point. The lid was blown open in 2014 with Gamergate. That is when all the nerds and virgins spewed forth into society on the backs of liberals, hipsters, niggers, and women, and it's all been downhill ever since. Normal people were not extremely online in 2012. Normal people were not doing shit online in 2012. Facebook was a wasteland of two sentence updates of absolutely no meaning to anyone besides their small coterie of IRL friends who really were their friends. The internet still existed. Social media was a very small and inconsequential world. The grifter industrial complex of today did not exist. Only people like Pewdiepie were just starting to upload videos in 2010 was were becoming popular in 2012, popular in the old sense, not the modern industrial scale billboard shit.
Internet now is completely industrialized and monetized, and integrated. The change from 2008 to 2025 is at least as big as what became before 2008. In 2008, youtube was 3 years old.

>>171518>I remember Anderson Cooper crying about the jailbait subreddit in 2011<muh based pedos>Normal people were not extremely online in 2012. Normal people were not doing shit online in 2012.This is just not true, Gahoole was correct that normalfags had begun to post more often on social media during this point, larger channels like Smosh and Fred and Dozens of Minecraft youtubers had reached a Million subs at this point, the internet was very much a part of the lives of zoomers. This isn't even putting to account the beginnings of channel networks leeching and networking off of these channels like machinima, which basically reached their zenith in 2012-2013. However, like Gahoole said it was just that the old Internet still existed in conjunction with it. Gamergay was basically the last stand of true Nerds vs the normalfag takeover, and we lost in the end as you can see.
I agree that the change from 2008-2025 was big, but Gahoole was trying to say that the writing was already on the board during 2012.
I also think a large reason why the internet died when it did was because a lot of the "anons" were giant attention whores, its not like normalfags asked for le anomulus moralfag crusades and gamergate was pretty much forced on us when metokike made his gay video. Another reason is anons just sorta gave up and went home, just like the Murdoch Murdoch episode where Murdoch
gay sounding one implies the alt-right will just go home in an ironic tense because they totally won't but in the end they actually did just go home after fedsville and now we have to deal with Internet Caesars like Fuentes who we basically ceded the political discourse too and have to deal with.
You could say that unlike a lot of the actually smart oldschool /pol/ anons many of us just didn't know what was coming, and also a lot of people who use imageboards are just filthy perverted freaks who have no real values and just use these spaces because they aren't wealthy enough to get away with whatever fetish they have in real life. Either way we gotta live in the world that exists today. At least we can still post here freely.

>>171492I agree with him overall. The old Internet was already on its way out in the 2010s. I just miss how imageboards were more popular, traditional forums were still hanging on, and the Internet being more white.
I don't agree with his take on Emily Youcis, though. I'm not a huge fan of The Will Stancil Show, but I liked the one where Will was hogging out on beaner chow and refusing to share and the one that was basically a "Sexcrime" music video. I still preferred watching her tear Gayvin McAnus apart in real life. I also saw a post she did recently where she hinted at having a Moon Man video in the works, so there's that to look forward to if she plans on finishing it.
Also, Ramon owns all the McDonald's tvchan memes. There's just something about him that makes me chuckle. I don't know what I find the funniest. It could be the bodysuits and afro wigs, the goofy expressions on that ugly brown mug of his, the broken English, the fact that he's a superhero hungry for tranny ass, or something else entirely.
