Can somebody please explain hyperreality to me?

I'm starting to remember.
He talked about simulations right? Simulacra
It's fuzzy, but maybe I can find my old books.

 No.1413

Based on the context it was used in by people who claim to have read him (not me, I can't read), it basically refers to the simulation of reality formed in our minds by the media we consume as being more "real" to us than reality itself. Example: reality - leftists deeply entrenched at every level of government, media, business, intelligence agencies. Shitlib Hyperreality - hoards of white supremacists sabotaging POCs and subverting ARE DEMOCRACY.

People who have read him just try to correct me. Protip: you probably can

 No.1422

I still think about digging up my books.
Such a daunting task.

I don't recall this being the case because I believe he shills the 9/11 narrative, but I could be wrong.

What's the best edition for The Silmarillion and The Hobbit? I'd rather avoid compilations since they'll probably include The Lord of the Rings and I already have it.
Thank you.

 No.1790

Don't really think it matters unless you're trying to get a translated version or care about illustrations.

What are some good audiobooks I can download from Audiobookbay?

 No.1579

I find a lot of Shakespeare productions are pretty high end. A quick perusal and I couldnt see if you can sort by production company but Tantor and Blackstone have been really good to me. The War of the Worlds usually has that radio program as an audiobook.

 No.1594

I very much enjoyed Paul Giamatti's reading of A Scanner Darkly.

About Don Quixote: before reading it check out at least one knight epic referenced in his library, some get thumbed through by the monk and some other guy when they are about to burn it in Part I.

It's amazing reading Amadís de Gaula and realizing it is better than anything the people that wax poetry about Quixote and the jump to contemporary literature have ever written.

After getting #MeToo'd in 2017 the controversial award-winning comedian turned social activist, Louis C.K. had withdrawn from the spotlight and rumours began to circulate online and in the press. There were rumours that he had travelled to Africa or had died during the BLM protests, but after months of research it became known that he had become a monk and cult leader, and that he and his followers and acquired a large estate in the so-called "Borscht Belt" of the Catskill Mountains. The site had been a former holiday resort, but had now been transformed into a religious commune. Some claimed it was a degenerate and nefarious sex cult funded by Jews, while others discarded this and referred to them as harmless truthseekers with an alternate view on race relations.

In order to get to the bottom of this and confirm or deny the allegations we set out to visit their compound and to talk to the man himself.

Opinion in the nearby town appeared to be heated, though none of the denizens wished to speak to us, or any other outsiders. Only the local sheriff agreed to talk to us, though he had to cut the interview short since he was rather busy at the moment due to the disappearance of two hitchhikers in the nearby Catskill Park. Six young white women had gone missing in the area in the span of just four months. "It began around the time these cultists moved in," the sheriff said. "Of course," he quickly clarified, "I do not mean to insinuate that the two are connected in any way. The two events merely happened to coincide."

With our worries thus put to rest we began on our journey towards the cult's estate in good spirits, eager to speak to the now so reclusive comedian. As we drove along the road we could not help but notice that a great number of houses appeared to be empty and boarded up, while others had for sale signs put up.

A long, winding dirt road cut through the densely forested wilderness for miles and miles. After a while we reached our destination and were greeted by a large portal of solid timber. The name of the former holiday resort had been graffitti'd over with the name "Blackhaven".

We were greeted by a representative we had contacted beforehand, who had agreed to show us around. Our arrival attracted some attention from the members of the cult, who eyed us suspiciously.

As we made our way through the main camp we noticed a large clearing some distance off, and in the middle there appeared to be the remainPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Yes, indeed! I did draw inspiration from several /truth/-related sources to write that awful thing. When the idea that entered my mind I just couldn't get rid of it till I had hastily written it down. Normally I would just banish it to a folder and never look at it again, but I thought that perhaps some of the /lit/yzens might find it amusing or entertaining, in whole or just bits and parts of it.
Think I've exhausted the cast of tvch related characters to write about now, so I've no idea where to go next, though I would like to try and write something serious, not just hiding behind a masque of parody and pastiche in the style of Poe Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

That was a great read, also Catskill Mountains being both the original place of the Nuwaubian cult and a Lovecraftian setting really helps bridge things together.
I went for a /truth/ adjacent story for the upcoming issue of the Feuilleton too but honestly it's not quite on the same level, it's low grade pulp I hacked together.

The phone rang.
SUDDENLY
Yakuza heard a female voice on the other side of the line.
"Surprised, hapafag? This time I'm going to shut you up for good."
The blood drained from his face. This couldn't be true. How could that autistic French housewife have tracked him down? He always used a mobile phone to post.
"Looks like I have already succeeded. HA HAHA HAHAHA!" she said almost surrendering her will to her sinister laughter.
"H-how did you find me?"
"TA GUEULE HAPAFAG! You don't talk if I don't tell you to! But to answer your question, you have bought Priscilla albums this month haven't you?"
Y-yes.
"I was the seller. I know your phone number, your city, your address and even your email now. And even worse, I've located your Suavelos profile. God, I never thought it could be more embarrassing than what you post on my board."
"I LEAVE FOREVER"
Yakuza hanged up. "Good. -she told herself- Maybe this time he means it"
The very next day, he was posting on her board again like nothing happened.

Let's say nuclear war or sunspots or whatever destroys civilization in the near future. What would be the most valuable books to trade for food and ammunition? Most would probably say hunting and survival guides but I think military books like Sun Tzu's Art of War, Maurice's Strategikon, and Clausewitz's On War would be highly desired items among the inevitable warlord class.

Are these Warlodds nomadic or do they have a stronghold set up. While the Art of War is the only one Ive read off your list Im not sure how well it would translate to bartering vs. something as eye opening as say Rich Dad, Poor Dad because I mean you might pillage and plunder for 0.1 percent of your time, but having 300+ offspring can be overwhelming 100% of the time

 No.1515

>Sun Tzu's Art of War
I think it's one of the most overrated meme books ever. Someone made it explode in popularity at some point in recent history and people got convinced it's this fountain of wisdom when it's full of platitudes for the most part, with some memorable quotes peppered here and there.

 No.1516

The most valuable books would be those that would help their children and their children's children learn how to read and write.

I don't know if a warlord class would be wise enough to realize their worth.

try accepting the possibility of failure, but not dwelling on it or denigrating yourself or your work prematurely

in fact it would seem that it should be a very small part as to whether or not you yourself 'like' or 'dislke' your work in general, unless you're writing for yourself alone
satisfaction i would say is a different matter though, a different sort of feeling altogether

If you want it to be successful, or at least make money you need to find a way to frame and present the story you want to tell that also appeals to an audience, and at the same time you need to stand out from the mass of books being published/available today.

 No.1461

>>1454
Run it. Every time I submit a story I convince myself I'm collecting sweet sweet rejection letters so that when the rejection letter comes I just laugh about it. It's really not a big deal if you strike out with a publisher; once you get the rejection letter you should be able to identify more flaws in the story for future revisions to try again with other publishers. You'll probably eventually reach a point where the story is good enough for some tiny indie publisher that won't pay you but will take your story and by the time you get to that point you'll just be glad that somebody thought it was readable.
