I am trying to understand what made 90s tv & movies feel so different compared to the decades after. I swear the biggest difference are the characters. It was like, three decades ago, there was a completely different idea of what a person was, therefore a completely different idea of what a character should be. Really interesting.

Kevin Smith is definitely someone whose body of work I don't think anyone is really going to think stands the test of time. I only really like Clerks because of Randal Graves, and even then you're not talking about high art or anything. It's not something I could see myself revisiting very often. I don't really remember anything about Mallrats or Dogma, and not much stands out in my memory of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. If Kevin Smith hadn't gotten lucky with Clerks, it's hard to imagine him having made a lasting career in Hollywood. It's surprising he's even still around as it is.
