As a kid I found the love story boring, but sorta appreciated it a bit more as a teenager. Haven't seen it since but thinking back upon it, it has a lot of flaws. Jack is basically the male version of a manic pixie dream girl for Rose. Yet, it did capture the imagination of the world's audience. I guess a simple enough love story set on a tragic event made it easy for the general population to sympathize with and it's remembered till date.

That's something I like to do too. Even when the movies aren't that great by someone else's standards, I have a level of personal fondness for them that can overshadow their flaws.
