I'm not sure if this is the right board to post about this, but I thought it'd be nice to have a thread about DIY automotive painting techniques.
Pic related isn't my vehicle, just one that was painted with the technique I'm about to describe, by the guy I learned this from.
Say you have an old vehicle you want to bring back to life, and you want a type of paint that will look good and be resistant without needing an expert executing the job. Alkyd enamel comes to your help. It was the typical automotive paint until acrylic enamel became popular. It's desirable because it can last a long time and can produce professional results with ease.
A good mix is rustoleum, mineral spirits, penetrol/flood and enamel hardener, which is optional but makes the paint very strong and chip resistant.
You can get the first three in home improvement stores such as Lowe's and the enamel hardener can be found in Tractor Supply (I love them for gym stuff too, you can get rubber pads for much cheaper than in other places) or other sites online.
When doing alkyd painting, it's desirable to use a high volume low pressure gun. They can be bought for cheap at places like Harbor Freight and even the cheapest ones give good results. You want many light to medium coats as opposed to a heavy one and you want the paint to stay wet as long as possible, this way it flows for a smooth glossy finish. Always paint in the lowest temperatures you can and not under direct sun.

Again, it's all hypothetical because it's not my Jeep lol.
I made the thread more as a discussion of techniques in case someone happened to have some use for some pointers, to spread the word. Too often I see people do poor rattle can jobs without it being any cheaper for them because of not knowing better. An HVLP gun on Harbor Freight is $30. You also need an air compressor which you may already have or you may even rent one if pinching pennies (or buy one for about $120). A quart of Penetrol at Lowe's is $10. Rustoleum is like $9 a quart. Mineral spirits about $8. Enamel hardener $18 but you don't need a lot of it.
Meanwhile the spray cans are like $10 each or $30 each if auto specialty paint and you need tons of them. With this, maybe 5 gallons of paint to cover an entire vehicle. Cheaper and the results not only looks better but last longer.

Are there really just car paint spray cans? I always assumed that those spray jobs, car hood art specifically, was done with some sort of air brush. I thought about using mine to fix up some scratches and rusty spots, but I just have one of those mini air brushes for War Hammer models and wasn't sure if it would be as effective

>Are there really just car paint spray cans?
Yes but the finish tends to be shitty and porous.
>I always assumed that those spray jobs, car hood art specifically, was done with some sort of air brush.
They usually are.
>I thought about using mine to fix up some scratches and rusty spots, but I just have one of those mini air brushes for War Hammer models and wasn't sure if it would be as effective
Fixing spots is tricky, ideally you want to refinish an entire "panel" (not literally, but you don't want to have new paint and old paint on the same visible surface). Of course, even that is preferable to rusty spots. But painting over rust is a bad idea too, unless it's a rust converter paint.

>>1782
Also the small air brush could possibly work, but it'll be trickier than a proper HVLP gun, and you'd have to make sure it doesn't get clogged with the automotive paint.

Recently a friend's gardening handle broke, so I took it upon myself to make a new one. Came out pretty easily, just put a piece of a dowel on the lathe and carved down a handle. Drilled a hole in at the top for the shovel part to fit in and filled the rest up with wood glue. Feeling pretty proud of it so I figured I might share.

So what have you been fixing up?

What is an NTF exactly and why does it cost so much

 No.1710

NFT is Non fungible Token that runs on Blockchain. Think about it a copyright system, You tokenize your old artworks, photographs, video, gif, meme , collectable etc & then no one could counterfeit it. It runs on Ethereum blockchain. Tokenizing one of your artworks is called Minting.

Now this Minting requires a small amount of gas fee or transaction fee, There are other sites like Mintable which let you mint your artworks for free. After minting them you can put them on auction or sell it on a fix price. Some other sites like rariable will also give you a 10% commission for every future sale of your product, Mintable doesn't give you.

NFT exclusively runs on Ethereum & price of every listing gets decided on Ethereum. Right now 1 eth costs almost $2000. That's why this is so costly.

You can put your artwork either on Auction, Auction with a immediate buy & at fixed price like I did.

 No.1712

>>1710
NFTs are ridiculous for a casual artist to consider using Ethereum. Ban I would use the Ravencoin blockchain to create an NFT, much cheaper, 5 to create, 500 to burn, ravencoin is currently at .20 of a dollar and runs on a bitcoin blockchain fork.

hello, when i animate walk cycles primary or anything that uses bipedal or arm it always end up limping and unbalanced or sliding…

what usually causes this and how do i avoid it? i ve considered just simulating it and then tracing it and even just get one feet right and the other feet just being a copy of the other but in different timing

is that okay? the second way feels very unnatural obviously and i havent even tried it out myself but then i dont know how to make straight ahead walking/cycles animation that is "correct/balanced enough" from the get go

 No.1658

Never did animation, but my best advice is video record yourself doing the same motion and then animate yourself frame by frame to ensure the most natural look. I feel like when it comes to walking you have to account the legs carrying the weight of the body as well as the terrain and general motion of the walk cycle.

Do you have any examples? maybe sometimes it's just your own perception exacerbating the problems.

>needing motivation
>needing people's praise/input
>everything being made needs to have some 'worth'

Needing motivation has to be the absolute motivation killer of them all. Countless times I've wasted trying to find ways to "motivate" myself to get something done when I really should just be doing it. The rut you seem to have found yourself in is very relatable, and the first step is acknowledging it. No one get's 'motivated' to go to work and frankly I doubt many actually want to go to begin with, but in order to pay those bills and live that commercialized life you gotta earn that cash.

The best approach is to deal with your personal needs as if they were a job. Set some time for yourself (put an alarm on your phone) and just shit something out. It doesn't need to be top quality or even any good, but something is a million times better than nothing. Make sure you anticipate this time like any other important event you have, don't just ignore it off until the last minute, give yourself some hype. And then when the clock hit's the hour, do something. Fucking pick it up and make anything happen, the PC in front of you, a shitty drawing of a video game character, fuck it, maybe literally scribble 'fuck' over and over on the paper. As long as you're doing action with a pencils and paper you're just reading yourself up for the next meaningful piece.

You are absolutely capable of this. You're lying to yourself if you say you can't.

And don't care what people think, honestly if someone is going to get all pissy and dismissive of your work then fuck them, you don't even need to acknowledge them. They're getting all upset at your work so they can stay upset. If your work can't please them then your continuation of your methods will be a sufficient "fuck you too". and please, whatever you got, feel free to make a thread and post it.

I know I would love to see what you can do and I'm sure there are many others looking forward to the same, we are all friends here. Besides, they board is practically in a vegetative state, so anything is appreciated and will rise much higher than oekaki cock pics.

Overall, making and publishing art is very intimidating, it's a method of visualizing your soul onto others. But if you want to express yourself openly than you gotta start somewhere and this place would be a good start. No one will identiPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Most professional artists get to where they are though happenstance, really. Not so much that they chose to get into art in a later stage in life just as a means for a steady income but more so that they grew and developed into the artistic lifestyle because of personal passions and interests to the skill of art. Most professional artists with any sort of respectable notoriety have spent years or even most of their life developing and practicing their skills. Sprinkle in the ability to self market, having good connections, or holding art shows and you have the workings of a profitable skill. But if you have rich parents you can easily skill having skill part.

I'm assuming you're the anon posting about making a webcomic and if so, than that's a tight road to drive down. Most webcomics are very niche and cater to a minor demographic, usually getting their income through donations or merch. And even then you'll probably still have to hold up a regular job just to completely support yourself. Sadly, the days of PennyArcade and Homestuck are at an end. Now a days a good part of the foundation of current day webcomics comes from the artist's own passions to pursue them, not so much that they make a lot of money off of them (because they most likely don't)

If money is your only passion than there's no quicker way to achieve a decent/good income than commissioning furry porn, as sad and disgusting as it is to admit. You don't even need to be that good of an artist. But other than that, there's not too much else I can help you with, but your best bets are probably going to deviantart or furaffinity and lurking there.

The art business is a very self-sacrificing industry. Often times you'll be making the passions of others while having to put off a lot of your own. If you're skilled enough, you can pursue more interesting and creative options for others and be able to generate a more reputable name for yourself. But if skill is what you lack, and money is your only desire, then prepare yourself to become the artistic equivalent of an onlyfans model. It would be more self respecting to just get a regular job at that point. I'm sorry if any of this was disheartening for you to hear but don't be discouraged, if you're passionate aboutPost too long.
