I really like power pop (more so the music from the 70's and early 80's that was retroactively called power pop than the jangle pop and college rock of the late 80's or the gay self-conscious power pop of the 90's onwards) but I feel like a faggot when I tell people that because a)the genre has an image of being made by scrawny incels for scrawny incels and b)the name "power pop" itself is incredibly gay. Are there any types of music you have this problem with?

I really like peaceful ambient music and atmospheric New Age music, but I'm in the closet about it because New Age music has a really bad reputation.

I also like old songs from the early 20th century and even before. I'd feel like a complete autist trying to explain to people how I like hissy old music that their grandparents would probably consider passe. It's even worse for some things. The fact that I find Nazi propaganda music enjoyable would probably make me a complete social pariah if people found out.

And video game music still doesn't seem to be socially acceptable to admit you like, although it's getting closer.

Really, I don't even know I'd be comfortable discussing most of the music I like with normalfags. Even liking standard rock music is on its way to becoming a niche thing. How could I even mention liking something like bagpipe tunes or Yugoslav war songs or throat singing without coming across like a spaz?

who cares about what you like? if it sounds good to you, that's all that matters. it's good to find a lot of different music enjoyable.

True. I don't really have "guilty pleasures," but there's also no way to really talk about music with people IRL when most people don't share your taste or would write you off.

looking for some sort of logic to improv music like animenz or francesco parrino

the kind of ideas that helps me to a. guess the melody i rmb by ear or memory b. to enbelish the melody by chords in the most similar way to the original
c. keep all the above consonant and not dissonant and sounds like the original songs

anything like this that musician does to be able to sound even moderately original?

So it seems this board is more about sharing music and less about making music. Let's change that up a bit.
What VST inruments and DAW you use for a specific genre whether it is folk or dance.
Also generic Tips and tricks you like to share.
Personally I like to learn about turbo folk from here.

I use fl studio for everything. Metal, techno, experimental. Everything. Even live situations, I use fl studio. Just use any daw you're used to. Turbofolk I'd say just get samples from traditional music, get a vengeance sample pack, and make a house/techno/trap/etc. song out of those samples. It's just that easy.

Nice dubs.

Yeah, FL Studio is great. I'm a hardware autist now, but the workflow is great for composing and mixing once you get the hang of it. I'd prefer to never use anything else unless I had to. Too bad Image Line is gay and hasn't ported it to Linux yet.

if they did that i'd be done with shitdows. they're ways supposedly to get fl studio working on linux but it looks needlessly complicated and not fully functional. how do you jump into hardware? seems pretty expensive compared to the 0 dollars you'll spend on making music on the computer, and not as efficient due to limitations of gear.

Same. The lack of music capabilities is the only reason I haven't switched.
>they're ways supposedly to get fl studio working on linux but it looks needlessly complicated and not fully functional.
Yeah, it's completely useless as far as recording from hardware. That's what kills it for me. It might be usable overall depending on your needs, but in the little time I used it it just felt off to me.
>how do you jump into hardware? seems pretty expensive compared to the 0 dollars you'll spend on making music on the computer, and not as efficient due to limitations of gear.
I started by buying relatively cheap digital synths from the '80s and '90s after learning to program DX7 sounds with Dexed. Pretty soon I'm going to get a fancy flight case and put together my rack unit collection.

I think that vintage digital synths are pretty underrated. FM synths are really versatile, and the sample-based synths are capable of nice pads and atmospheric sounds despite having lots of cheesy sounds. Link related is one I love. The interfaces on these old rack synths stink to high heaven, but you can get a cheap iPad (gay, I know) and Patchbase and really go to town. I think the prices for these synths are going to start rising pretty soon. Some of the ones I've looked at are already more expensive than I remember them being a while ago, so I'm trying to finish up my collection.

I've got a couple analog synths and don't really feel like I need any more, but I am going to get a new hardware sampler.
